Planning Your Garden

Gardens can be as varied and unique as the people who grow them. The type of garden you grow depends in part on your 'available assets' (personality, time, geographic location, budget, space, etc) and constraining liabilities' (water supply, time, budget, etc).

However, the message of Every Lawn A Garden is that EVERYONE CAN GARDEN! It is easy (consult our "brown thumb" guide) and can be begun RIGHT NOW, RIGHT WHERE YOU ARE!

The essential ingredients for gardening (seeds, soil, water) are scalable and can be found anwhere from a plastic cup on a windowsill to a large plot in the backyard - and anywhere in between.

For those without a lawn or available garden plot, there are a number of alternatives to traditional gardening including container gardens, balcony gardens, rooftop gardens, and community gardens. Information on seeds and composting is also essential to a successful garden.

To create your garden, establish a gardening plan including:

  • the type of food you wish to grow

  • the space you have to grow food in

  • the time you have available to garden
